LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS- Much to the dismay of Mom’s Demand Action, a “gun-totin” Kroger shopper drew his weapon and saved and elderly man from an onslaught by 7 young thugs. In response to why the 24 year old decided to step in, Fox 16 quoted the hero saying:

“I saw seven people against one guy and I did not like those odds,”

An elderly man was surrounded by seven teens, with at least one of the seven attacking him. The 24 year old licensed carrier, who asked to be referred to as Gene, drew his weapon and ordered the gang to disperse.

“They kept yelling this ‘isn’t your fight, you need to walk away you need to put the gun down’,” said Gene.

During the stand-off onlookers began filming with their phones. Gene said he even overheard one lady telling the cops that there was a man with a gun in the parking lot.

By the time law enforcement had arrived, the assailants and the victim were gone. It turned out that the thug who assaulted the elderly gentleman was the victims nephew. The victim refused to press charges.

Knowing when and when not to draw your weapon is a decision that gun owners should hope to never have to make. “Gene” made a decision and possibly saved the mans life. No one was seriously injured during this event, and tragedy was averted. Though that aspect of the story is not all that surprising. There are countless examples of people lawfully using their firearm to prevent tragedy each day. The most (not so) surprising outcome of this event may be the negative light in which this story has been presented. The multiple uses of “Gunman” to describe Gene, a law abiding hero, throughout the story is shameful. Not to mention the bystanders who were more concerned about the guy with the gun than the seven guys beating up an elderly man…

Also, I’d like to take the time to once again say great job to Kroger for not being bullied into keeping good guys like “Gene” from protecting themselves and others from criminals. Well done.
