It doesn’t matter if you are a liberal Democrat or conservative Republican, it seems the last thing you want anyone doing is explaining to voters how the legislative process really works and how to get things done. Politicians seem to like their hallowed halls of wheeling and dealing for the purpose of getting their personal agenda items passed without any concern or thought about what the people want them to do.

That seems to have been the problem with Rachel Malone, a pro-gun activist who was hired by the Republican Party of Texas to serve as their Director of Operations. They knew prior to hiring her that she was a pro-gun activist, but when she started going throughout the state telling voters how their state legislature really worked, that was too much for GOP officials, so they fired her.

(Slow Facts) – Choice of personnel indicate your policy. You are who you hire..and fire. The Republican Party of Texas terminated their director of operations, Rachel Malone. Ms Malone was a grassroots activist before she was hired by the Republican Party of Texas. She was a passionate second-amendment supporter. She thought the existing gun lobbying groups in Texas fell short in their promised results. Malone started her own, one-person gun rights lobbying organization. She monitored bills and asked others to speak up when she testified. She learned how the Texas Senate conducts business and passes legislation. She also learned how the Texas Republican Party sets the party’s agenda. Therein lies the problem.

In theory, local caucuses meet to establish an agenda and nominate to state conventions. This was supposed to be the voice of the people talking to their future elected officials. In fact, real grass-roots activism challenges the powerful status quo. Democracy frightens the-powers-that-be.

Malone was originally speaking to pro-gun and conservative groups across the state. She explained how the political system was supposed to work. She explained how a politically active group could get things done…

Even good old boy conservative Texas Republicans like to have their gravy jobs kept somewhat secret and hidden from the general public and this is the real reason why they fired Malone from her position. This the same mentality that exists in Washington Republicans, especially Mitch McConnell, who hates President Trump for rocking his easy boat.
