Earlier this week Canadian shooter Cole McCartney posted a terrifying video to his Facebook page.

The video shows a shooter firing a Smith & Wesson .500 Magnum Revolver, which is usually a pretty enjoyable thing to do. The problem is when the shooter fires a fireball explodes into the screen and the barrel of the gun flies away from the revolver as the cylinder flies open in the opposite direction.

All that is left of the gun, is the shattered frame.

This result is actually the best the shooter could have hoped for, under the circumstances. The fact that his hands were left untouched by the suddenly incendiary firearm, is a blessing that the shooter should be thankful for.

While there is no indication here of what actually occurred – the most likely culprit is a faulty reload – it is a terrifying reminder of what all shooters must remember… tools can malfunction, even meticulously built and well-maintained tools like this firearm.

There’s actually a similar video making the round on the Internet. In this one the shooter does not escape unscathed and suffers a very serious hand injury his  muzzleloader explodes in his face.
