Reddit is a social news and media aggregation website. It operates by having subscribers submit links, images or text documents to the site. Other members then vote whether to favor or disfavor the submission. Depending upon the voting determines where or how the submission is posted. (This is a general overview as I am not a member and totally privy to their entire inner workings.

Launched in Massachusetts in 2005, Reddit is now worldwide and like so many other social websites, has decided to impart their own liberal views on their subscribers by means of banning a number of firearm related communities from their system.

(Bloomberg) – Several popular firearms-related communities were removed from link-sharing site Reddit on Wednesday after an update to the company’s policies.

“As of March 21, 2018, we have made a new addition to our content policy forbidding transactions for certain classes of goods and services,” a Reddit spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “Moving forward, we are prohibiting transactions that are either illicit or strictly controlled. Communities focused on such transactions and users who attempt to conduct them will be banned from the site.”

The policy impacted pages, known as subreddits, which discussed firearms, ammunition, explosives, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, stolen goods, personal information, paid services involving physical sexual contact and falsified documents.

Subreddits banned from the site under the new policy include r/GunDeals, r/GunsForSale and r/AKMarketplace…

Among the other vendors that have been banned or subjected to scrutiny are GunVendors, Guns4Sale, Airsoft Market, BrassSwap and more. Reddit is following in the footsteps of Facebook and YouTube who have already. The move effectively kills major revenue streams for firearm related companies and between all of the social outlets discriminating against them, it could force some out of business, which is their ultimate goal.
