Let’s face it:  Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has a bit of a shoddy history when it comes to conservatism and politics.

Ryan seemingly straddles the line between swamp snake and sacred blessing on a weekly basis, having once been a committed “Never Trumper” who has since capitulated in the wake of the President’s resounding successes.  Yet, by no mistake, many Americans are still weary of the speaker’s republican street cred.

As if to dispel any lasting rumors of his own RINO-disguise, Paul Ryan has been extremely vocal in the aftermath of yesterday’s horrific school shooting in Florida, pushing back against those who wish to exploit these 17 deaths for their own liberal, political purposes.

“’There’s more questions than answers at this stage,’ the Republican lawmaker said in an interview with Tom Katz on Indiana radio station WIBC about the mass shooting less than 24 hours earlier.

“’I don’t think that means you then roll that conversation into taking away citizens’ rights – taking away a law-abiding citizen’s rights. Obviously this conversation typically goes there. Right now, I think we need to take a breath and collect the facts.’”
Ryan’s calm and collected reaction will likely be rewarded as well, as 19 year old shooter Nikolas Cruz was taken into custody alive and well after yesterday’s massacre.
This is in stark contrast to the way a number of recent mass shooting events have concluded, including the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting in Florida, and last October’s Las Vegas massacre – both having been incidents in which the alleged perpetrators were D.O.A. once authorities reached the killing field.
Paddock’s case is particularly frustrating due to the fact that the retired multi-millionaire left no trace of a note or manifesto either online or in real life.  Furthermore, authorities’ reluctance to share information with the American public regarding their investigation has spurred a number of spurious theories online.
With Cruz, the hope is that we will be able to get a glimpse inside the mind of mass shooter for the first time in quite a while, leading to new ways in which to work on prevention.
