What a world we live in. A retired Navy veteran from North Carolina parked in a veteran-designated parking spot on Saturday night at the supermarket. When he got back to his car, he found a nasty note calling a moron for parking there.

The note left on Rod Boyle’s windshield read  : “You are a [expletive] moron! I hope karma visits you often! (this is parking for our veterans)”

Rod Boyle, 56, said he parked his car in a “reserved for veterans” spot at a Harris Teeter location in Wake Forest to quickly grab a view items, The News & Observer reported. As he was leaving the parking lot, he discovered the note flapping on his windshield.

Boyle, who served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years before retiring, said he was initially angry and shocked that someone would place a note like that and assume he didn’t serve in the military.

“What business is it of someone to make that assumption?” Boyle told The News & Observer on Tuesday.

“I am a veteran. What made you think I wasn’t? You can’t tell if someone is a veteran just by what they look like, or the car they drive.”

Rod shared a photo of the note to Facebook with the following message:

“To my surprise some left me a note (see image) and placed it on my windshield at Harris Teeter while I was inside shopping

Yes, I was parked in the VETERAN’s parking space.

As many of you know, I retired after 20-years of service in the US Navy, in 2001. I am proud of my accomplishment and I definitely do not expect a return but respect is what I feel I have earned.

I do not fault Harris Teeter, (Store # 0395), at 1432 Brogden Woods Dr, Creedmoor Village, Wake Forest, NC 27587 for this action that this person did, but if he or she feels like being a judge, I expect you get your facts straight first.”

Boyle also went back to back to the store to show the manager. He said, “I told them, ‘I’m not angry at you or the store, and I know there’s nothing you can do,’ but I wanted them to know,” he continued, “I feel tremendous honor for how the USA allowed me to proudly serve our country. My service was not only to defend, but also for the rights of Americans. One of those rights is freedom of speech, such as for a person to make an assumption, write a note and touch a car.”

I hope the person who left the note sees Boyle’s response. They deserve to feel ashamed, knowing that they left that note on the vehicle of a man who dedicated 20 years of his life to serving our country.
