Many gun advocates believe that most gun control laws are unconstitutional. One of those law is the one that forbids anyone from having a firearm on Post Office property, including having one stored in a vehicle temporarily parked outside a Post Office. The Montana House believes this federal is unconstitutional and passed a bill to allow firearms on Postal Service property.

Today, the Montana House passed a bill that would authorize a person to carry a handgun on U.S. Postal Service property in the state and set the foundation to nullify in effect an unconstitutional federal firearms regulation.

Rep. Randy Brodehl (R-Kalispell) introduced House Bill 246 (HB246) on Jan. 13. The legislation would allow handguns in U.S. Post Office buildings and on their property.
