Earlier this week, the New York Mets teamed up with former  New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the first “National Gun Violence Awareness Day”. Participants showed their support by wearing orange– a movement made popular after the gang related shooting death of Chicago teen in 2013.

Athletes being forced to take part in activities they don’t necessarily support is nothing new. However, not knowing you supported a cause you didn’t believe in until you read about it on Breitbart the next day is definitely a new one. When asked to throw on his orange tee and pose with his teammates in the locker room on Tuesday, Met’s pitcher Dillon Gee fell in line. This was your normal everyday PR-BS you have to deal with in the pros- No harm, no foul. Apparently Gee had no idea what was going on, and didn’t realize until the next day what he was just apart of. He posted on Twitter:

When confronted by a fan as to why he took part in this public display if he didn’t believe in it, Gee responded:

Tragedy averted Mr. Gee. This is completely understandable, no one will label you a mindless gun-grabber now.

In Gee’s defense, it is quite difficult to follow the current rhetoric being used by Mr. Bloomberg and other gun-control regimes to dilute their intentions and offer a more palatable gun control under the guise of “gun violence”. By taking the primary focus away from guns and placing it on violence, they have created a platform that no one in their right mind would disagree with.
(Take note of how Gee unknowingly fell into this tangled web of words.)

“People will argue with us if we say we need less GUNS in America. Buuut they can’t argue if we say we need less GUN VIOLENCE.
-Bloomberg’s Speech Writer Having Epiphany

Despite Gee’s lapse in consciousness, we will forgive him. The lesson to be learned here is that you need to always be aware. That goes for walking down a dark alley at night, backpacking in bear infested woods, or when dealing with billionaires who hate guns. Always be aware of your surroundings.

Side Note:

National Gun Violence Awareness Day may appear to be a cause with good intentions founded by friends and family of a young girl that was murdered in (shocker) Chicago. However, if you take a closer look you’ll start seeing things a little different. A simple scroll down on will show you the large scale support of just about every gun control group in the US.

#WearOrange is not an homage to a lost friend/family member. It is a calculated group effort by numerous gun-control groups, spear headed by Every Town For Gun Safety. Which (in case you didn’t know) is the re-branding of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns after they decided to combine evil powers with the ever pleasant Moms Demand Action
