The President delivered a bit of an unexpected and unorthodox news conference this afternoon, after being railroaded into signing one of the most ridiculous pieces of legislation in a long time.

That was the 2018 omnibus spending bill in a nutshell:  Ridiculous.  The democrats somehow held the entire process hostage long enough to inflate the bill to over 2,200 pages, and still didn’t protect their precious Dreamers, possibly holding out for that faux compromise in their new battle with POTUS.

At today’s somber news conference, the President outlined exactly what happened behind the scenes, declaring that the only way to fund our military properly would be to sign that flawed legislation.

“My highest duty is to keep America safe,” he said.

The bill signing came a few hours after Trump created last-minute drama by saying in a tweet that he was “considering” a veto.

With Congress already on recess, and a government shutdown looming, he said that young immigrants now protected in the U.S. under Barack Obama’s Delayed Action for Childhood Arrivals “have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded.”

Trump’s veto threat was at odds with top members of his administration and House Speaker Paul Ryan, who had said Thursday that he was supportive of the measure. The White House also issued a formal statement of administration policy indicating Trump would sign the bill. Several advisers inside and outside the White House said earlier Friday that they suspected the tweet was just Trump blowing off steam.

While this bill will certainly help to keep America safe from threats outside of our borders, there is no guarantee that Trump’s unwilling capitulation to the democrats won’t leave us susceptible to attack from within.

The left has been increasingly radical in recent months, with a number of reports of political violence having already broken out among Americans.

Not even a year ago, James T. Hodgkinson opened fire on a baseball team comprised of congressional republicans.  Hodgkinson was gunned down by Capitol Police, and it was only hours later that America discovered the truth:  The deranged would-be killer was a member of several radical left-wing Facebook hate groups.  Among the groups was one eerily titled “Terminate The Republican Party”.
