Memorial Day is quickly approaching. While it is a day meant to celebrate our soldiers and our freedom, and remember those who gave their lives for our country, the celebrations can also get rowdy and out hand as well.

Here are a few tips to ensure that your Memorial Day is as overall safe for everyone in attendance:

  1. Lock your guns, along with knives and BB guns (Alcohol, children, and guns don’t mix well)
  2. Lock the alcohol up, away from the teens and underage attendees
  3. Check the house and yard for hazards beforehand, i.e. holes in the yard, bad steps, open wires, etc.
  4. Talk to your neighbors and possibly use orange cones in order to warn others that guests may be parking in the street
  5. Check your guests for signs of intoxication before they leave
  6. If you’re attending a party and plan to drink, plan before and have a designated driver or money for an UBER
  7. Always keep an eye on the grill when in use to prevent a fire
  8. Keep the grill out in the open and away from the house or trees
  9. Do not add starter fluid after the coals are already ignited
  10. If swimming, actively supervise children and know CPR

It is also a good idea to have a first aid kid on hand in case anything goes wrong, such as a burn from the grill or fireworks.
